4,720 fans watched an exciting game at Municipal Stadium. The Chicago Giants
registered 5 runs in the 6th inning and topped the Kansas City Monarchs by
the slimmest of margins, 8 to 7.
Both teams were tied at 7 runs apiece after nine innings. Chicago won it in
the 10th inning. Eddie Murray laced a base-hit. Pinson stole second with
some aggressive base running. Buzz Clarkson dug into the batters box next,
but he struck out. Chicago continued their aggressive style with another
stolen base. Chicago had a total of 10 hits for the game.
The winning pitcher was Tom Hall(2-1) who allowed no runs in 3 innings. Lee
Smith(1-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. He was the victim of a
defensive lapse and did not allow an earned run in the game.
George Foster lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 5 RBI for Kansas City
but his effort was wasted in the loss.
