The Birmingham Barons had an easy time of it at Municipal Stadium defeating
the Kansas City Monarchs by a score of 12 to 4.

Kansas City was unable to recover after Birmingham went ahead in the top of
the 7th inning when they tallied 4 runs on 4 hits. The big moment was
provided by Ghost Marcelle who helped quiet the crowd when he ripped a
base-hit bringing in two baserunners. Kansas City was out-hit by Birmingham,
15 hits to 9.

Jose Mendez(1-0) allowed no runs in 1 inning, and picked up the victory. Bob
Veale(0-1) took the loss. He got hammered, allowing 11 hits and 7 walks in 7
and 2/3 innings.
