One run was the difference at Candlestick Park as the San Francisco Giants
defeated the Cincinnati Reds 9 to 8.
Joe Strain enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He lined a base-hit which
brought home a run in the 3rd inning, delivered a solo blast in the 7th
inning and ripped a base-knock which plated a run in the 8th inning.
Cincinnati made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the
needed runs across.

from Gary Lavelle who earned his 17th save. Dave Tomlin(1-3) was the loser
in relief.
