outscored the San Diego Padres 6 to 5.

Cincinnati erupted with the game winning runs in the 8th inning with 2 runs on
4 hits. Dan Driessen led off and started the rally when he tripled. Hector
Cruz got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. Harry
Spilman then hit a deep fly. Dave Collins followed next and he banged out a
single. Joe Morgan came up to bat and ripped a base-knock. Dave Concepcion
added to the uprising and delivered a one-base hit. Concepcion took second
on the throw. George Foster next to the plate and he was walked
intentionally to load the bases. Bench got his turn next, but he was a
strikeout victim. Cincinnati out-hit San Diego for the game, 15 hits to 11.

Manny Sarmiento(3-4) went 2 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. Sarmiento got
help from Tom Hume who earned his 6th save. Mark Lee(2-9) took the loss in
relief.
