Jeff Fassero(20-5) and Dave Telgheder(5-7) treated the Seattle fans to a fine
pitching duel at The Kingdome. The amazing Seattle Mariners eventually
emerged as victors over the Oakland Athletics by the score of 2 to
1.

Seattle came up with 2 runs in the 3rd inning. After an out was recorded,
Roberto Kelly keyed the rally when he drew a walk. Ken Griffey Jr. followed
and he smashed a two-run homer (his 61st of the season). That was all
Fassero needed. Seattle had 8 hits overall, while Oakland had 4.

Mike Timlin gained credit for his 11th save.
