17,961 fans were treated to a fine game at Kaufmann Stadium as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Seattle Mariners won by the
slimmest of margins, 8 to 7.

The game was deadlocked at 7 after nine full innings. Seattle won it in the
10th inning. After an out was recorded, Jay Buhner drew a walk. Paul
Sorrento stepped into the batter's box and he lined a one-base hit. Sorrento
took second on the throw. John Marzano then worked the squeeze play to
perfection scoring the run. Seattle won despite being out-hit by Kansas City
14 hits to 10.

The winning pitcher was Paul Spoljaric(4-7) who allowed no runs in 3 innings.
Heathcliff Slocumb recorded his 8th save. Jeff Montgomery(4-3) suffered the
loss in relief. He pitched 1 and 2/3 innings and surrendered 4 hits and 2
