One run was the difference at Riverfront Stadium as the Cincinnati Reds
registered 6 runs in the 1st inning and defeated the New York Mets in 12
innings 8 to 7.

Both teams had scored 7 runs after nine full innings. Finally, Cincinnati
prevailed in the 12th inning. After an out was recorded, George Foster drew
a walk. Johnny Bench came next and he doubled making Cincinnati the winners
and sending the 51,723 fans home happy. Despite losing, New York out-hit
Cincinnati 14 to 9.

The victory went to Tom Hume(10-8) who went 3 and 2/3 innings, allowing 1 run.
Wayne Twitchell(2-3) suffered the loss in relief. The Cincinnati ballclub's
record now stands at 72-53. With the loss New York now has a record of
53-67, worst in the division.
