Joel Youngblood had 2 base hits and scored 3 times at Shea Stadium as the New
York Mets pulled off a dramatic comeback beating the Cincinnati Reds by the
count of 5 to 4.
New York had the game winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning plating 2
runs. Ed Kranepool led off and started the attack as he laced a one-base
hit. Youngblood followed next and he drew a walk. Gil Flores then reached
on an error. Doug Flynn came up and he worked the squeeze play to
perfection. The game was a wild affair with the lead changing hands 5 times.
Dock Ellis(6-3) went 2/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the victory. Tom
Hume(10-10) ended up with the loss in relief. He pitched 1 inning giving up
1 hit and 1 walk.
