Second baseman Doug Flynn had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the New York Mets won
in dramatic fashion over the Cincinnati Reds by a score of 5 to 4 at
Riverfront Stadium.
New York came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 2
runs utilizing 3 base hits. Joel Youngblood led off and got things going
when he delivered a one-base hit. Flynn stepped up next and he lined a
base-hit. Gil Flores then laid down a sacrifice bunt. Frank Taveras stepped
in and he ripped a single. Alex Trevino came up to bat and hit a deep fly.
Both teams ended up with 10 hits on the night.
The win went to Andy Hassler(3-5) who allowed 4 runs in 8 innings. Neil Allen
gained credit for his 8th save. Tom Hume(9-8) ended up with the loss in
relief.
'I pin this one on my own shoulders,' Hume said. 'The bottom line is I didn't
get the job done. Our fans deserve better than this.'
