Tom Seaver whiffed 10 batters as the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Chicago Cubs
by the score of 9 to 1 at Riverfront Stadium.
Ray Knight had a big day at the plate. He lined a one-base hit in the 4th
inning, smacked a three-run homer in the 7th inning and doubled bringing in a
run in the 8th inning. Cincinnati totaled 12 hits on the afternoon.
Seaver(11-5) allowed 1 run on the game. The loss was charged to Rick
Reuschel(6-8). 'Seaver gave us exactly what we needed today.' John McNamara
said. 'When he threw the fastball he threw it for strikes. They were really
fooled by his change. Most of the time he had them chasing it.'
