The Cincinnati Reds and the lifeless San Diego Padres locked up in an exciting
one-run game at Jack Murphy Stadium. The final score was the Cincinnati Reds
5, the lifeless San Diego Padres 4.
San Diego was unable to climb back into it after Cincinnati went ahead for
good in the top of the 4th inning as they scored 2 runs on 1 base hits. The
key at-bat was by Dave Concepcion who disappointed the partisan crowd when he
smashed a two-run homer. Doug Bair pitched a perfect ninth and was credited
with his 16th save.
Frank Pastore(3-2) got the win allowing 4 runs in 8 innings. The loss was
charged to Randy Jones(6-14). He gave up 5 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings.
