One run was the difference at Riverfront Stadium as the Pittsburgh Pirates
defeated the Cincinnati Reds 4 to 3.
The deciding run was scored by Pittsburgh in the top of the 9th. Tim Foli
laced a base-knock. Foli then stole second base. Pittsburgh continued their
aggressive style with another stolen base. Dave Parker stepped in and he
singled. After another out, Lee Lacy was a strikeout victim, unable to help
out. Pittsburgh got their 2nd stolen base of the inning. The Cincinnati
batters went down meekly in the bottom of the 9th.
Enrique Romo(8-5) went 2 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory.
Manny Sarmiento(0-1) ended up with the loss in relief. He pitched 1 inning
giving up 2 hits and no walks.
