Garry Templeton had 2 base hits as the St. Louis Cardinals topped the
Cincinnati Reds by a score of 3 to 2 at Bush Stadium.

St. Louis scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 8th inning scoring 2
runs on 2 base hits. Ken Reitz led off and he drew a walk. Ken Oberkfell
came to the plate and stroked a base-hit. Bernie Carbo then hit a sacrifice
fly. Templeton was up next and he slapped a one-base hit. Lou Brock came to
the plate and drew a walk to load the bases. After another out, Keith
Hernandez came to bat and drew a walk. Cincinnati tried unsuccessfully to
come back in the 9th.

Will McEnaney(2-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 1/3 of an inning and
allowing no runs. Darold Knowles preserved the game for McEnaney, recording
his his 2nd. Tom Seaver(11-6) ended up with the loss. He surrendered 3 runs
and 5 hits in 7 and 1/3 innings.
