In a tight game it was the Cincinnati Reds 7, the Philadelphia Phillies 5 at
Veterans Stadium.
In the 5th inning Cincinnati went on top for good plating one baserunner.
Dave Collins was hit by a pitch. Dave Concepcion was next and he ripped a
base-hit. Joe Morgan then drew a walk to load the bases. George Foster
followed and he hit a sacrifice fly. Johnny Bench was next to bat, but he
was a strikeout victim. Cincinnati totaled 8 hits on the night.
Paul Moskau(3-3) went 6 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. Moskau got relief
help from Doug Bair who gained credit for his 9th save. Steve Carlton(7-5)
was tagged with the loss.
'He gutted it out' John McNamara said of Moskau. 'I was very impressed by his
tenacity.'
