Joe Niekro carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning at The Astrodome as the
Houston Astros beat the Cincinnati Reds by the count of 4 to 3.

Niekro(10-5) earned his pay with a solid performance for Houston. He
surrendered 8 hits and 4 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings. The right-handed Niekro
lost a no-hitter when Joe Morgan singled with one out in the 6th inning.
Cincinnati threatened in the 9th but Houston was able to put down the rally.

Joe Sambito earned the save, his 9th. The losing pitcher was Paul
Moskau(3-5). 'I had a little blister on my index finger before the game, but
I thought it was nothing.' Niekro said. 'I was lucky I got a win because I
couldn't put the ball where I wanted it.'
