WEB GEMS- Top 2nd: Johnny Bench blocked the plate, saving a run!
In an entertaining game at Riverfront Stadium the final score was the
Cincinnati Reds 5, the New York Mets 2.
Cincinnati scored 4 runs in the 6th inning when they had 4 base hits. The
highlight belonged to George Foster who elicited a roar from the hometown
fans when he smashed a two-run homer. The game was a scoreless duel until
the 6th inning.
Fred Norman(6-2) got the win allowing 2 runs in 8 innings. Pedro Borbon gained
credit for his 2nd save. Kevin Kobel(3-3) was tagged with the loss.
Cincinnati extended their winning streak to 6 games. John McNamara was
thrilled following the game -- 'We're really on a roll now. These guys are
playing their hearts out and I couldn't be happier for them!'
