Left fielder George Foster blasted a homerun and had 3 RBI and Mike Lacoss
went 9 strong innings as the Cincinnati Reds bested the San Francisco Giants
4 to 1 at Riverfront Stadium.
Cincinnati promptly took the lead in their half of the first when they tallied
3 runs on 2 hits. That early scoring held up. The pitchers took over after
the 4th inning as neither team was able to score again.
Lacoss(1-0), allowing 1 run for the game, picked up the victory. The losing
pitcher was Ed Halicki(0-1). 'Lacoss was the man today,' John McNamara said.
'He had just about every pitch working.'
