Exiciting win for the Mets




In a replay of the 1985 National League, the Mets came from behind to defeat the Expos in extra innings. The Mets trailed 4-1 entering the top of the 9th but scored three to tie it, then held on to win in extra innings.

The New York Mets nipped the Montreal Expos in 15 innings 5 to 4 at Olympic
Stadium in a hard fought contest.

The game was deadlocked at 4 after nine full innings. New York was victorious
in the 15th inning. After two were out Rafael Santana smacked a single.
Jesse Orosco came to the plate and delivered a base-hit. Wally Backman then
delivered a one-base hit. Backman took second on the throw. New York
finished with 13 hits in the victory.

The victory went to Orosco(3-1) who went 3 innings, allowing no runs. Gary
Lucas(0-1) took the loss in relief. With this win, New York has a division
leading 40-19 record. They have been 7-3 lately. With this loss, Montreal
has a 5-5 record of late, 30-32 overall.
